There is a movement emerging from the city of Bristol - its gritty, uncomfortable undertones are creating bold, genre-defying music with a common thread that can be heard in all of its most exciting artists: from breakout superstars IDLES to techno-punks Giant Swan.
“Fucking spectacular” (Kerrang!) art-rockers Poisonous Birds present an alternate perspective on their hometown. Marrying warped, esoteric sonics with lush soundscapes and an artful aesthetic, they are "striding into a field of their own" (Bristol In Stereo).
“Raging and fragile at the same time” - Kerrang!
Most recently, they spread their toxic wings on dual EPs “Big Water” and "Dirty Water", exploring the darker, sensitive corners of their psyches, and conjuring synthetic textures that are neither modern nor vintage, but sets the perfect mood for singer Tom Ridley's meditations on existing in 2018.
Highlights include the angular, sculptural title track “Big Water”, which was picked up for Apple Music’s best new music playlist in 2018, the abstract and arrhythmic “Schwer” and the woozy single “Little Puzzle”, whose art-house music video premiered on DIY Magazine.
Simple Things Festival, Arctangent and Dot-to-Dot, have all hosted their intense live show, whilst they packed out Rough Trade Bristol and Thekla at special events in 2018.
Early 2019 will see a handful new singles, and the announcement of their debut LP.
Their calendar is open for 2019, which will see a new live show feat. unreleased album material, and a focus on improvisation and spontaneity, creating a unique, immerse experience at every single show.
