Line Up

Overhaul are an Alternative Rock band formed in Scotland by American Singer/Songwriter/Musician Andy Gallagher in 1997. They have opened for international touring acts such as Violent Femmes, Dinosaur Jr, Langhorne Slim, Grant Hart (Husker Du), Dom Brown (Duran Duran/Take That) and Ken Stringfellow (R.E.M/The Posies) and have performed at venues in the UK such as The Liquid Room, Edinburgh, King Tut’s, Glasgow, HMV Institute, Birmingham, The Cavern, Liverpool, Borderline, London, Jazz Cafe, London, The Savoy, Cork, Ireland, The Roisin Dubh, Galway, Ireland and Vicar St, Dublin, Ireland. They have also played many festivals such as Liverpool Sound City, Go North Festival, Inverness, Electric Picnic Festival, Ireland.

They have released Four albums:

Overhaul (2002)

Hope Shines Through (2006)

Here and There (2009)

Achukma (2013)

Other notables: Overhaul’s second album Hope Shines Through was one of the last albums to be recorded at Glasgow’s Cava Sounds Studio one. Studio one was later torn down and made into car parking. Cava is still going strong, in fact Overhaul recorded part of the Achukma album there.

Andy Gallagher and Graham Brown also play with Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes solo band Gordon Gano and The Ryans.

Original drummer and one of the founding members of Violent Femmes Victor DeLorenzo co-produced and played drums/percussion, backing vocals and Theremin on Overhaul’s third album Here and There.

Achukma originally started as an Andy Gallagher solo EP which was released on After Music Recordings in Minneapolis but Andy thought the songs were so good, he took the tracks and continued to produce and add to them. Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes), Mike Watt (Minutemen/Iggy and The Stooges), Astrid Young (Neil Young) and many others performed on the album.

Overhaul’s original first album “Overhaul” was shelved in 2002/2003 due to Andy not being happy with the way it sounded. But, Andy has recently revealed that he is going to be remixing and partially re-recording the album but has not given a date for the release yet.

And now in 2017, Overhaul’s next album is in production. The band – now comprising of the multi-faceted Andy Gallagher, Paisley-based and longest serving Overhaul bass guitarist, Kenny Johnson, and West Coast drummer, John Malone – have already taken the new tracks for the new album on the road, performing up and down and all around Scotland’s towns and cities. It is certainly encouraging to see some old fans turn out for the gigs, and very special to see new fans having a ball along with them! Andy has always loved the collaboration process when it comes to his own unique songwriting abilities, which has continued on this new album, with the band as a whole taking part in the process of shaping the songs, through improvisations on stage to working through Andy’s material in rehearsal. It’s a fresh and vibrant way to work, and the music coming through reflects the approach the band is taking with it.

Work has begun on recording the material for an EP and a full length album in Andy’s own home-made recording studio on the island of Millport. The album will be released this year (stay tuned for release dates) on digital and CD with Mood Vertigo Recordings, and will also be put out on vinyl for a label in the US. The guys are so excited about the opportunity to get Overhaul’s new music out there, and particularly grateful to Mood Vertigo Recordings for that opportunity. And, if you haven’t already broken out your old record players over the last couple of years, then see to it; I personally can’t image a better way to listen to the work of a band as rich in soul as Overhaul, than on vinyl!

Stay tuned, and we hope you enjoy.
