Nathan graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1996 with a BA(Ed)Hons and then went on to have a very successful 11 year teaching career working in Outstanding Primary Schools in Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich Boroughs as a Primary Sports Specialist and Creative Arts Manager. He also worked closely with Southbank University and the University of Greenwich supporting and mentoring newly qualified teachers.
His work as a singer and songwriter has seen him performing hundreds of shows all over Europe and he has also fronted (and now also manages) the professional function band ‘Take 5’ since 1994. In 1995, Nathan self funded and recorded his first solo album 'Out Of The Blue' It was only available on cassette and is now a very rare collectors item! You can now only purchase this album as a digital download in the online store. After finding his perfect band, he produced and released his first commercially available album 'Corrections' in late 1999 on CD and digitally worldwide - followed by extensive touring alongside his demanding teaching career.
In April 2003 Nathan toured the UK with Steve Corley on piano for his Piano 30 project, 15 original songs and 15 cover versions. A live album was recorded but has yet to be released. A recording of the final night of the tour can be found in the Video section of this site and on YouTube. Following this, the band got together and recorded a live album 'Live in Las Vegas' which was released digitally in 2006.
As a session singer Nathan's voice has been used on numerous commercials including 'Garmin Satellite Navigation', 'Butlins', 'Cash Converters' and children’s TV including 'CBBC', 'Cbeebies', 'Bob The Builder', 'Horrid Henry' and has even written and produced songs for 'Peppa Pig' via eOne notably 'The Peppa Steppa' in 2016.
Passionate about the craft of songwriting, the art of music production and always committed to delivering the highest quality teaching, he set up ‘Bullybeat - Songwriting/Music Production workshops’ in January 2007.
Following a meeting with publisher Jonathan Simon at the Ivor Novello Awards, Nathan also signed an administrative publishing deal with Moncur Street Music Publishing Ltd (acquired by Peer Music UK) and released his 4th studio album ‘Graffiti’ on his own 3foot6 Record label later that year. Nathan pressed 1000+ copies of this album and gave them away to children taking part in his workshops.
In July 2008 he joined forces with the award winning children’s charity Beatbullying where he worked as their music manager and leading music practitioner working face to face with 7,500 children creating over 300 brand new anti-bullying songs in the UK and Europe, generating over 200,000 downloads from the apple iTunes store. In this period Nathan also produced and released his 5th studio album ‘Living From A Suitcase’. Nathan also pressed 1000+ copies of this album and gave them away to children taking part in his workshops.
Nathan Timothy Foundation - "The Songwriting Charity" was set up in July 2011. In 2012 the charity was awarded the Official Olympic Inspire Mark by LOCOG for its 'Sports Tracks' songwriting programme.
In 2013 Nathan set up 'Project K' in memory of his sister Kate. who passed away in July 2012. Totally funded by the charity, the team delivered the 'Master Peace' songwriting programme in Welsh schools during June and July culminating in a very special concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff where videos featuring the children's original songs were played in HD on a huge screen.
Since its formation the Songwriting Charity team have worked in hundreds of schools - working face to face with over 90,000 children - inspiring and engaging them to learn about music and feel good about themselves through the songwriting process.
In July 2013, legendary record producer Rupert Hine became the Songwriting Charity’s Second Patron.
In August 2014, Nathan released his 6th studio album 'Spinning Plates' to celebrate his 20 year anniversary as a songwriter.
In October 2016, Nathan was awarded a Gold Badge by BASCA (now The Ivors Academy) for "inspiring and empowering a whole generation of children and young people through music." The BASCA Gold Badge Awards have been presented for over forty years and honour those who have worked tirelessly to support the British songwriting and composing community.
In 2017, following an invitation to the Kinks studio in London, Sir Ray Davies became The Songwriting Charity’s Third Patron.
In January 2019, Nathan along with Songwriting Charity Patron and legendary producer Rupert Hine, took his unique workshop to LA and not only worked worked in Hollywood schools but delivered a showcase and a video of his work so far to ASCAP and members of the American Music Industry.
‘Chasing The Positive’ is Nathan's 7th studio album. Written, produced, mixed and arranged by the artist, it was released on 3rd January 2020, through Nathan’s own label 3foot6 Records and online distribution group Ditto.
April 2020 marks the official launch of 'Song Mix - Making Your Songs Sound Better' - where you can officially request a mix/remix by Nathan.
May 2020 saw the release of the brand new song 'We Become Like Children' on all digital platforms. This song is a tribute to Nathan's much loved father Peter Timothy who passed away in December 2019. Nathan followed this release with a string of singles to support his 'Chasing the Positive' album. 'Happy Over There', 'Earthbound', 'Paris', 'Send Me Pictures' and 'Home' in December 2020 marking the end of a very difficult year.
2021 sees the challenge of releasing brand new songs every 5 weeks. 'Everyday Hero', 'Sink or Swim' and 'House A Home' have so far been released via Ditto on all digital platforms.
September 2021 also marked the release of Purple Dreams - Don't Eat The Sandwiches. An album 30 years in the making! Re-recorded and mastered during lockdown 2020-2021. The album '12 Inches' a special album of extended mixes followed in September 2022.
In January 2023 Nathan released 'Go!' his 8th studio album. Dedicated to his late father, Peter Timothy, and his dear friend, Rupert Hine.
Nathan is a proud husband and father of 2 boys. He loves writing, comedy, athletics, watching films, meeting new people, spending time with his family and telling stories that make people laugh.
