Luke Concannon (http://www.lukeconcannon.com) is best known for being one half of the underground Folk Hip hop duo ‘Nizlopi', who somehow scored a #1 hit in the UK & Ireland with the JCB Song. Run from their tiny family-owned independent label it was a feat many thought impossible. Ed Sheeran (who did work experience for the band as a teens & co-wrote with Luke) cites Luke & Nizlopi as a major influence on his work.
After 8 intense years with Nizlopi, Luke was burned out and heartbroken from the collapse of his band, label and community. He hitchhiked to Palestine from England, eventually volunteering as a peace worker in the West Bank. Song writing & playing as he went, the songs later formed his debut solo album (2013’s Give It All). One song ‘I want to be free’ was called by Sheeran ‘A song of the year for me’.
Luke fell in love with American Classical singer Stephanie Hollenberg and moved to Boston MA in 2016. ‘In The Sea' EP was released in 2017, inspired by the new depth of intimacy in his life, followed a month later by single ‘Join The Liberation’ - a plea to the UK electorate to choose kindness and dignity, rather than the same old insanity in the coming election. The single was played by the BBC, and got national press in the UK. Luke has spent 20 years as an independent musician committed to making empathic, generous & brave music. In 2021 he will release new album ‘Ecstatic Bird In The Burning’, inspired by the power of active hope in a burning world.
