"Leg Puppy’s Latest Release Holds A Selfie Stick to Our Collective Faces" - Brash! Magazine
South London based electro punk four piece, Leg Puppy, close out the summer of 2017, with the viral-inducing, “Selfie Stick (Narcissistic Prick)”. Already well established on the South London live scene, with their unique cock-tail of infectious bass ‘n’ beats, ear grabbing vocals and technoir-clowning, Leg Puppy’s latest release holds a selfie stick to our collective faces, and tags us all, #narcissiticprick.
A black, vintage Merc cruising by your house, “Selfie Stick”, arrives, a driving sub bass, thick with menace. Vox samples burst and break out of the beat, like clown faces, framed manic. Synth lines are willfully blunt-tonal, indifferent to the melodic, serving only the percussive. Electro drum rolls hint at the marshaled, the militant, while the driving bass throbs from your crotch, willing you to dance or f**k, #narcissiticprick.
8 bit keys drop sonic flashbulbs onto the chorus, ‘A narcissistic prick, I’m a selfie stick’. Choral synth undertones rise into an epic foreboding, our false idol held aloft, ‘Selfie Stick, Selfie Stick’. ‘Retweeting all my tweets’, Leg Puppy’s mantra repeats, and we eat it up, ‘like toast’, #narcissiticprick.
Second drop, the mantra gives way to spoken word comments, quoted from socials. Either real or imagined, the banality of the comments both undermine and elevate ‘Selfie Stick’. A rotor synth builds and breaks. The driving menace returns. 8 bits drop. Epic foreboding. Mantra. Mantra. ‘Narcissistic Prick, Narcissistic Prick.’ And “Selfie Stick (Narcissistic Prick)”, comes to a shuddering, sub bass halt. A vintage Merc brakes heavy, when you’re wearing clown feet, #narcissiticprick.
