Jaramo in the studio

Biography

Bristol pop band Jaramo has hit upon a creative fusion, blending flavours of funk, drum & bass, hip hop and rock to present music that is fresh, feel-good and accessible, in the eclectic tradition of the Bristol sound.

Formed in 2012, the band features school friends Molly Hardwick (vocals), and twins Jacob (bass) and Raul Gibson (drums). Their first, collective exposure to the world was an end of year school event where they performed the Jocelyn Brown classic, “Somebody Else’s Guy”. The reaction was so overwhelmingly positive that they just had to continue playing together. Frustrated by the lack of gigging opportunities for young kids, they took to the streets of Bristol and began busking. Flash crowds would form to watch the jamming prodigies in awe and by the end of each set, the impromptu audiences would be cheering for more. These outings gave the band an opportunity to develop its technical proficiency as well as stagecraft, and with a respectful nod to Bristol’s musical legacy and this guerilla strategy to performance, the act became known as Mini Attack. By age 11, they had already achieved international press coverage from as far afield as Brazil, capturing hearts, minds and many thousands of views of their YouTube videos. These extraordinary clips soon came to the attention of key players behind the 90s UK soul and acid jazz scene, who quickly signed the band to a development deal.

Although they approach their music-making with discipline normally associated with martial arts devotees, the kids have fun with it, knowing how to work hard and play just as hard. Raul and Jacob spend every spare second skating the streets of Bristol and London (and in the summer, it’s Seville, Spain – their Mum’s home town). Molly is always singing, in or outside the studio, she is learning to play the guitar and of course, she loves listening to her favourite artists - from Tracy Chapman to Twenty One Pilots. She supports wildlife conservation and is about to take a work placement with the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

In addition to their musical ability, the boys have had extensive modeling experience with Boden, Jack Wills, eBay and more. Molly is a keen actor, having taken part in stage productions as well as TV work.

After working hard beneath the radar for the last couple of years, developing their craft and their sound with various producers in London, Jaramo are now proud to promote their debut, “Headphones”, in conjunction with Phonaudio.
