Highland born accordionist and MG Alba Scots Trad Awards ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ winner, Gary Innes has been performing and composing music for over 16 years. Born in the village of Spean Bridge in the North of Scotland, Gary is one of the founding members of award-winning Scottish super-group Mànran,
He picked up an accordion for the first time at the age of 8 and has never looked back. Gary released his first solo album How’s the Craic in 2005 and more recently his second solo album ERA was launched at Celtic Connections 2017 to great critical acclaim, with Tim Carroll writing “ERA is more than one man’s reflection, it’s a view into the world of a master at work.”
Gary has also recorded three albums with his current band Mànran, as well as albums with Ewan Robertson and all-accordion group Box Club.
Gary has performed in over 30 countries worldwide.
Ewen Henderson hails from Lochaber in the West Highlands of Scotland and has been naturally steeped in the traditional music and Gaelic culture of the area from an early age. Ewen started learning the fiddle at five years of age and has since then mastered an impressive array of instruments, having had the privilege of learning from many of the true masters of West Highland traditional music - Aonghas Grant Snr. on fiddle most notably - whilst also being influenced by his strong family musical heritage.
Though most commonly found performing with Mànran (the band he co-founded in 2010), Ewen has also been fortunate enough to play all over the world with a host of top Scottish and global cross-genre artists including the world-renowned Battlefield Band, with whom he toured for several years, and World Music pioneers the Afro-Celt Sound System.
Ali, from Methven in Perthshire, was inspired at the age of 7 to take up the bagpipes and rose through the ranks of the world famous Vale of Atholl Pipe Band. It was there that he was taught, alongside Ross Ainslie, by the late, great Gordon Duncan. He has since gone on to become a successful multi-instrumentalist on the Scottish folk music scene. His arsenal includes Bagpipes, Whistle and Guitars. Ali has performed and worked alongside some of the most respected musicians and bands on the scene such as Capercaillie, Dougie Maclean, Carlos Nunez, Deaf Shepherd, Clueless, Steve Forman, Salsa Celtica, and Shooglenifty to name but a few. During his apprentice years as a professional musician he was fortunate enough to become a member of the multi award winning bands Brolum and Back of the Moon, touring with them for several years across Europe and North America. Back of the Moon went on to win ‘Scottish Folk Band of the Year’ at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards in 2005, with their album nominated for ‘Album of the Year’.
