Alan Clayson & The Argonauts + Kindred Spirit Band

Half Moon - Putney, London

£8 adv / £10 door
Entry Requirements: 18+ after 7pm

There are folk around today who'll tell you the legendary ALAN CLAYSON AND THE ARGONAUTS were and are the greatest group ever formed – not least for a stage act that still defies succinct description four decades after they were thrust swiftly to 'a premier position on rock's Lunatic Fringe' (Melody Maker).

Moreover, a critically-acclaimed latest album, This Cannot Go…, might stand as an artistic apotheosis were it not for the promise of surprises yet to come – and correlated press coverage contained the telling sentence, ‘Somewhere there is a parallel universe where they are bigger than The Beatles!’

Bordering a similarly quirky ‘prog-rock’ area, KINDRED SPIRIT weave thrilling electric violin and flute with perceptive and intriguing self-composed material, driving rhythms, bewitching chorale and virtuoso improvisations. They have performed at prestigious music venues such as Liverpool’s celebrated Cavern Club and Glastonbury Festival, with lead singer and principal songwriter, Elaine Samuels, featuring on TV on a number of occasions.

Line Up

Alan Clayson & The Argonauts

The Kindred Spirit Band sound is special and distinctive, featuring two lead instruments, which are more unusual for prog rock (violin and flute / sax) and laced with jigs, reels and duelling improvisations.

The heart of the band sound is Elaine Samuels'beautiful vocals, powerful, "perceptive and intriguing" songs and guitar work. The band soars into a rock stratosphere with classically trained, exciting and charismatically eccentric new band member Martin Ash's violin playing, which takes on the role of electric guitar for rock solos. Catherine Dimmock's or Stevie Mitchell's expert, classically trained flute & saxophone playing either complements or weaves with the violin melodies and their lovely vocals harmonise well with Elaine's. Mike Hislop plays driving bass rhythms and great drummers underpin the sound! They play with either legendary (ex Judas Priest, Roger Glover and many other famous names) drummer, Les Binks, or the excellent Aleem Saleh.

The Kindred Spirit Band have really took off in 2016, having been "discovered" by the wider Prog Rock world in April 2016 and being featured in the Classic Rock Society's magazine with some great reviews of their most recently released album, Phoenix Rising. This has already lead to global album distribution and offers of some great gigs for 2017. Since then, they have featured in Prog Magazine and Rock'N'Reel Magazine, on cover mount CDs, been picked to support Curved Air, at Claygate Festival, and Magenta at the "Nineteen73" Festival, Bilston, and then given a full page feature in Prog Magazine, in 2017.

See their "News" blogs and gig "Listings" for all the latest happenings for the band.
