The `'Minor Songs in Major Keys' EP was written and recorded by Matt Calder and John Shaw over the winter of 2012 / 2013 and released in March '13. Matt and John had met several years previously and it had taken a year or so to convince John to bring his bass out of semi-retirement. Matt had been playing the Hang since 2002 and already had a collection of songs written that needed some extra instrumentation to ground them. The EP is six tracks of Hang and Halo Handpans, Double Bass, guitar textures and downtempo / jazz inspired beats, inspired by artists such as Portishead, Thom Yourke, Massive Attack and Robert Fripp. The debut EP quickly got noticed by Tom Robinson who featured several of the tracks on his Radio 6 show, and by James Santer at BBC Introducing in Devon who had the band in for a live session.
