Sculpture Music combine the magical sound of the Hang and Halo with Double Bass and Beats, producing a unique ambient/world fusion. The duo are from Exeter, Devon, consisting of Matt Calder (Hang Drum, Halo, Guitars, Hammer Dulcimer, Guitars, Electronica, Vocals) and John Shaw (Double Bass, Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Vocals). Formed in 2012, the band was inspired by Matt's passion for the Hang, and more recently with the Halo, an instrument similar to the Hang but with a deeper, richer resonance. The trance-like sonics of these unique steel instruments draw comparisons to contemporary African music and modern Jazz, with ambient and dance textures coming from the electronica elements, all firmly underpinned with a solid lyrical bass foundation. The debut album Minor Songs In Major Keys was released in February 2013, followed by the 'Beneath The Waves' EP in March 2014.
Both releases have received extensive radio play on BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing, and the tracks 'One Of These Days' and 'Beneath The Waves' were featured on Tom Robinsons programme on BBC Radio 6 . Several tracks also featured on the 'Fresh On The Net' listening post. The duo have also recorded a live session for BBC Introducing in Devon. Sculpture Music are currently back in the studio writing and recording their third release, due out in the spring of 2015. There will also be a remix EP available in the new year.
