The Drover's Dream
Probably written in the late 1800s, this is a tribute to the different immigrant cultures that were around at the time. A drover, on the road, moving large flocks of sheep to pasture, or to market, falls asleep under the cart and dreams that all the indigenous animals gather for a sing song. The author plays fast and loose with accuracy - Australia has never had alligators! (The image is Walter Withers - The Drover 1912. Bendigo Art Gallery)
