Although ephemeral’s 7 piece line up is that of a classic soul band, the sound of chasin ghosts has elements of jazz, rock and hip hop underpinning the lyrical content which is always thoughtful, hard hitting and never afraid to address the dark topics as well as the light whether that be (lost) love, depression, world politics or philosophy.
Writer and band leader Hillman Mondegreen met singer Wolfgang Valbrun while touring his previous band in France. Wolf’s band were on the same bill and having heard his voice Mondegreen knew they had to work together. He wrote some songs with Wolf in mind and pitched him to form ephemerals bringing together the rest of the band from his extensive network of player contacts.
The band recorded chasin ghosts as they perform their live shows with Hillman Mondegreen on guitar, Wolfgang Valbrun on vocals, James Graham on keys, Adam Holgate on bass and Jimi Needles on drums. Their incredible horn section courtesy of band members Damian McLean-Brown and Thierry Lemaitre were backed up on record by Cordicella strings adding an extra layer of emotion to this already heavy recording.
