Alison Stewart
U2 changed everything for us really and have made our lives better. For the uninitiated Alison Stewart is now Ali Hewson and an inspirational activist, campaigner and businesswoman in her own right. She’s also the inspiration for the U2 classics All I want is you and Song for Someone which sadly we can’t compete with but aim high right? It also seems from the admittedly limited vantage point we have as fans that she really helped to steady and save Bono when he needed it and that U2 fans owe her an enormous debt of gratitude. When this song came it seemed to be through her eyes; an encouragement to surrender.
At the end of Bill Flanagan’s book on the band he quotes a letter from Bono to his father in which he says that all God wants is a willing heart and for us to reach out to him. Those words have stayed with us and it seems like Bono, Edge, Larry, Adam, Alison Stewart and all their extended clan members have been doing that ever since to the life long benefit of the rest of us whose lives have been enriched by their music and example.
From an unknown Glasgow band to the greatest band in the world. It is heart on sleeve time.
With all our love and appreciation.
