Draws Creature Mask // Sleepless Giants // House of Hatchets AUG 30
Cornerstoned Productions are back at Broadcast on the 30th of August and we’re bringing a healthy mix of Scottish talent along with us!
We’ve got Draws Creature Mask, I'm really excited about these guys. Their Bandcamp is saturated with beautifully textured tracks, these guys are clearly very into the feeling they are conveying through their instruments, and that's something I can really get on board with. Whether it's the haunting violin overtures on Hibernal, or the subtle lap-slide guitar integrated onto My Splendour, every moment counts. These guys aren't afraid to experiment, the rhythmic changes they exhibit give of a mathy feel, and the mixing and mastering on all their tracks is next level. Each track is distinctive, but they are all within the bracket that this band is pushing, they sonically relate but they're all unique. Nothing makes me happier than to see a group of musicians dedicated to their craft as much as these guys are.
Moving on to Sleepless Giants, who brand themselves as an alternative rock band, though I see their influences are running deeper than simply alt rock. In listening to their single ‘This Ship is Sinking’, I'm hearing the kind of kindred pangs of emotion that you'd find in any evolution of emo, and although they do have a big sound, what I feel is really being conveyed is the sadness of the writer. Both songs seem to relate towards feelings of neglect, relationships drifting apart, and the inevitability of change. Their songs are well structured, the parts are distinctive and they all play well; I'm looking forward to hearing more of their discography at the gig!
And finally, we’ve got House of Hatchets, who are going to undoubtedly going to ramp up the volume with their performance! They're an alt metal group, but they've got more to them than initially meets the ear. On their track ‘Too Real’, the chunky distorted riffs are there, the monstrous breakdowns and melodic recoveries into the chorus, but at one point they layer in a Gregorian vocal line pre-breakdown, a moment which shows me that they're willing to mess about with the genre a bit, but they also appreciate the darker influences that go into their genre. The energy is undeniable, the diversity in the vocal performance is to be admired, and the guitars reach deep into the book of mid-2000’s metalcore to deliver to punchy instrumental performances throughout.
This will definitely be a concert to make it down to, there's a lot bit of everything here for any rock fan to appreciate; we’ll see you there!
