The Blackbird Collective (formerly the Cam Nacson Band) comprises six artists as pictured...Toby Fredkin, Matt Binskin, Mary Rose, Cam Nacson, Ashleigh O'Brien & Toby Chew.
This expanded and re-jigged band lineup have been gigging together for about 18 months now. And the last twelve months have been crazy good for us...
We've released an EP "Vernon Avenue" which hit #6 on the Australian iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. The single "Maybe, Maybe" was added to TuneCore's Love Songs compilation.
We’ve also recently been featured on heavy rotation on many Spotify playlists and are clocking up hundreds of thousands of streams per month...with now well over two million streams!!
In Jun 2014 we toured with the amazing American singer/songwriter, Ron Pope, with shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. The response to the shows was phenomenal and it was amazing to meet up with our long-time supporters as well as people who picked up our CDs from the Merch desk for the first time.
Also, in 2011 Cam toured the US with Ron Pope as part of his Whatever It Takes tour...playing in Ron's band and opening for most of the 42 shows across 38 states.
The band’s first commercial release “Crazy Kids” hit the airwaves mid-2012…and was picked up by Triple M’s Radar Rock, with the video clip featuring on the ABC’s RAGE. “Crazy Kids” earned Cam the title of #2 Indie Acoustic Artist of the Year in 2012 (from 3200+ entries worldwide) from IMR Magazine.
In Feb 2013 “No Other Plan” (Single & Video) was released to great response, pushing Cam to #1 on ReverbNation’s Singer-Songwriter Chart. The track was also recently promoted in the US where it climbed to #42 on the American Radio Airplay Charts (MediaBase Activator Charts) in May 2014 and was nominated in the 2014 American Songwriting Awards.
This is an amazing achievement for an independent Aussie-based band and shows that our continued efforts to promote our music, locally and via the internet, has enabled us to maintain and grow our supporter base. The interaction this allows us to have with our followers is amazing...but there is no substitute for performing LIVE with your fans.
Currently we are back in the Studio hard at work on our debut album, "Home", which is due for release mid 2015.
