"Hands down one of the best indie rock bands my ears have had the pleasure to recently hear" - Wolf in a suit
“Bengal Lancers are making all the right noises and have the medals to prove it” - It’s All Indie
Bengal Lancers have always aimed to write songs to make you think and feel. That much is obvious from their live shows: Moments shared among friends. They’re a band whose fifth member will always be the audience.
The band was founded in Leicester, England, 2012, when guitarist Harry Sullivan and Bassist Charlie Hawkins decided to scratch the itch and write songs together. What started as a hobby of playing pubs and clubs grew into a full-blown habit and they soon enlisted the help of Max Hutchins on the drums.
Graduation brought about relocation, with Harry heading to the capital, Max returning to Cambridge and Charlie deciding to set up shop in Leicester but the song writing never stopped. In 2014 they headed to the studio and recorded debut EP “the flood sessions” which was met with critical acclaim.
They followed up with a sea of singles supported by a rigorous touring schedule all the while writing in the background.
2016 saw the addition of long-term friend, Aidan Wickham. As a four-piece the band were found to reinvent themselves with a bigger sound and bigger aspirations. The song writing grew at the same pace, tackling difficult subjects but always with a sense of optimism. Much like their shows, it’s a rally cry of support – a sense of solidarity that comes from the knowledge that we’re all in this together.
Influences include Frightened Rabbit, Augustines, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club and many more.
