Belfast Cathedral Music Festival Presents - The Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra in Concert

A huge hit each year at Culture Night, Belfast Cathedral are delighted to welcome the cream of the crop of young jazz musicians to St Anne's as the UYJO perform on June 16th. With a repertoire spanning old time jazz standards to chart topping hits - join us for a night of shoe tapping greatness!

The Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1993 after a series of workshops held at the Crescent Arts Centre by Ken Jordan. The orchestra has improved greatly since those early days and have won several awards, most notably the: Bass Arts Award 1998, BBC Radio 2 National Big Band Competition 2002, National Festival of Music for Youth Jazz Open Section 2004 and were given an award by the City of Derry Jazz Festival for their contribution to the development of jazz in Ireland. They have just returned from a very successful European Tour of Britany.

The 2016/17 Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra is made up of some of the best young musicians in Northern Ireland and this present ensemble is one of the best incarnations of the orchestra. They will not disappoint with their wide variety of repertoire and styles!
