Yielding her most ambitious recording to date, melodic architect and soulful crooner Ainslie Wills has been working on her forthcoming EP 'Oh The Gold' which was made in collaboration with long time ally and Guitarist – Lawrence Folvig and Producer Matt Redlich (Holy Holy, Emma Louise, Trouble With Templeton) at Matt's studio Grandma's Place in Brisbane, Queensland. The trio met after an AW show at Black Bear Lodge where a musical and jovial bond was quickly formed. Accruing an earnest following after the release of her debut album ' You go your way, I'll go mine' which was nominated for the Australian Music Prize and Melbourne Music Prize in 2013, Wills has demonstrated she is an artist with integrity and longevity.
Combining elements of Joan As Policewoman, Feist and Florence and the Machine, Wills is a dynamic performer that embodies vulnerability and strength.
Lawrence and Ainslie met whilst studying Music Performance and Improvisation at The Victorian College of The Arts which helped give them the vocabulary that lines most of their compositions. Between them their influences range from Boards of Canada, Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Stravinsky, Feist, Bowie, Mahalia Jackson, Phil Collins and ELO. The pair pride themselves on not being limited to one particular genre, rather treating each song as it's own story and serving it to the best of their ability. The result being a melange of Pop, Folk, Rock and Soul.
After a swag of guest spots with Big Scary's Tom Iansek on his side project #1 Dads on the single 'So Soldier' which Ainslie and him co-wrote back in 2013, Ainslie is now set to release her EP Oh The Gold in late 2015, the first single Drive added to full rotation on triple J and was followed by the second single 'Hawaii', both singles showing a definite evolution in sound from the Melbourne chanteuse.
