Before releasing Thumbtacks + Glue, there was a lot of recording that came and went – a couple of weeks in Montreal with Howard Bilerman, some compilation tracks here and there. The Edinburgh mini-album compiles some of this together, as well as some songs intended for a future release which have been pruned off. That’s not to say that these songs are lesser orphans, mind. ‘Little Magnet’ and ‘Guitarsenal’ are two of my favourite songs, and working on Pink Floyd’s ‘Mother’ for MOJO magazine was incredibly fun. ‘Berceuse’ was recorded in Visby, Sweden, and ‘Edinburgh (Reprise)’ features my beloved friends Eagleowl, playing along on the night that chord progression was written. We even performed the song in this version on a bridge in Edinburgh after a show down near the waters of Leith – just led the audience right out of the venue and into the summer night. I still feel like I could play that little melody and chord structure for hours.
