BRUTO INTERVIEW HEEL TURN + IDLE VIOLETS YEAH
On Thursday we play a gig with a couple of Teesside’s finest bands - HEEL TURN and IDLE VIOLETS.
Gig info - https://www.facebook.com/events/240586203456171
If you’ve ever wanted a tiny insight into the greats minds that form part of said acts....
Our singer Phil “interviewed” Joel (Vocals/Guitar) from Idle Violets and Aaron (Bass) from Heel Turn.
Ready?
Q - What’s your fave song by your own band and why?
AARON - Stay Hydrated, because the riff was written in my garage with my friend ben (of Taylor Illingworth Brewing Co. fame) and is now a set ender that sums us up as a band. Manic, a bit weird and non stop.
JOEL- Gunslinger as we wrote it about Stephen King’s Dark Tower series before they made that awful movie.
Q - What’s your least fave song to play and why?
AARON - American Idiot, because Sam breaks out into American Idiot everytime we play together and every impulse in my body follows through with it.
JOEL - Gunslinger as we wrote it about Stephen King’s Dark Tower series before they made that awful movie.
Q - If you were death metal bands you could be called Hell Turn and Idol Violence. If you were actually starting a metal band, what would it actually be called?
AARON. Chokeslam, because wrestling.
JOEL - Coma Coma Coma Chameleon
Q - If you could do a world tour with 1 band living or dead who’d you choose?
AARON - Beastie Boys, no explanation necessary
JOEL - The Clash. Think they'd be funny and good craic. The White Riot Tour sounds fun.
Q - You guys put on a lot of your own shows, organise stuff for local artists and you’ve contributed hugely to the local scene in Teesside - so who’s your fave Teesside band?... if you were held at gunpoint and had to pick just 1... Apart from Bruto
AARON - Whale Hill, they are young, hungry and only just getting started. A load of potential, and they just straight up GET IT. Big Biiiig things will come of those boys if they keep at it.
JOEL - SWEARS cos it’s my main squeeze and I love a free plug.
Q -Fave Teesside band that split? Mines Bi:Lingual SOZ HA!
AARON - Mines Bi:Lingual too. Kidding. Probably The New Lev Yashin or Dartz!
JOEL - T-Boy at the Brothel. They didn’t care much for the promotional graft but they had great tunes
Q - if you had Ten Grand and had to spend it on the local music scene / community - what would you do / build / create?
AARON - I'd contribute it to paying for space for workshops based around education through music and art. Then if there was anything left id buy a new drum kit for Whirling Dervish.
JOEL - . £10,000 worth of scratch cards, divided equally across the scene because I’m a socialist but also a borderline gambling addict.
