Jack in the Groove

Sambalanco is a community band playing Afro-Brazilian carnival rhythms based in Hastings, East Sussex. We are proud to present our first ever digital download recording.

The six minute track was recorded at the Carlisle Pub on Pelham Crescent, which is also where the band rehearse every Wednesday night.

All proceeds will go to the RNLI (the Royal National Lifeboat Institution). www.rnli.org

“The idea came about through a desire to do something different for this year’s Jack in the Green” said Pete Haddon, one of the longest-serving members. “We put together a new tune and thought, why don’t we record it? We could raise some money for the lifeboats”.

The band recruited local musician/producer John Nicholls to make the recording. He moved to Hastings five years ago drawn by the vibrant local music scene and is the bass player in the popular party band Cocktail Safari. www.thecocktailsafari.com

John used more than twenty microphones to capture the band’s unique sound, described by one band member as “Brazilian samba with a Hastings twist”.

Sambalanco was founded in 1996 as a community band open to all-comers. There are no auditions and everyone is welcome. We first played at Jack in the Green in 2000 and give performances all through the year. We regularly play in six or seven bonfire processions throughout East Sussex every autumn.

To find out how to join the band go to www.sambalanco.org.uk or simply come along to one of our regular rehearsal sessions on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm upstairs at the Carlisle. www.thecarlislehastings.com
