Two years ago it seemed deathcore was a stale genre, destroyed by cliche and over-saturated with try-hard bands copying the same riffs over and over. But in 2010 something new came along and somehow managed to breathe life into a dying scene. Release The Kraken formed in a basement in the student area of Leeds and have since managed to craft an entirely new yet comfortably familiar sound drawing influence from bands of all sub-genres of metal from the past 20 years and injecting it with humour and a party ethic. With their head-splitting concoction of sickening breakdowns, huge solos and bi-polar vocals, the band have achieved in 3 months what most bands aspire to achieve in 3 years.
After playing shows across the UK to great acclaim and releasing their debut music video for their first track 'Bruce Willis', they attracted attention from metal fans from all corners of the globe, a feat that has since been outweighed tenfold by the attention surrounding the release of their debut EP 'Safe Beyond The Sea', a free-to-download mini album featuring 4 tracks of absolute mayhem. Love them or hate them, 2011 is set to be the year of the Kraken.
