‘Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,’ said the Cat.
‘I don’t much care where – ‘ said Alice.

‘Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,’ said the Cat.
‘ – so long as I get somewhere,’ Alice added as an explanation.

‘Oh, you’re sure to do that,’ said the Cat, ‘if you only walk long enough.’

born in edgbaston birmingham, grew up in danzy green, spain & florida.
always keen to write and listen, pen and book in hand and walkman in the ears.
spent teens year hitching around the uk, playing gigs and parties from london to lancaster.
lived the hobo life, camping in woods in the summer & hoping to find a warm bed in winter.
spent a winter or two in spain, settled in birmingham after meeting a girl & made some musical friends
first studio outing was with producer bob lamb - ub40 lilac time duranduranwho saw a neil young, nick drake singer songwriter and gave me a day in the studio as a birthday gift.

carried on playing here and there locally & nationally then joined a band or two, some local notoriety but nothing major & learned more about the studio process
the last band was picked up by a label and we were recording album tracks with tom newman - tubular bells, cat stevens, paul mccartney
the deals were being negotiated and then the a&r guy got fired, it wound down after that
moved to florida to live with family, gave music a rest and started writing stories, childrens stories, poetical prose & started a couple of novels.
had a call from a band that wanted me to join them... came back to Birmingham we strated writing and rehersing
hooked up with brian bannister, long time friend who was producing, we messed around with a few songs, cathartic, sound finding songs, that people liked...
we then found the sound we wanted and started to make an album. It was put on hold recently due to studio leases running out and finanaces. it's planned to be finished for release in september.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES:

early years - 50's rock&roll, elvis, otis reading, the rolling stones & the beach boys
teens - once old record shops were in reach 70's stuff. neil young, bob dylan, paul simon and nick drake who had lived very close to my childhood home.
early 20's - townes van zandt, stil the best gig ever. steve earl, the eels, flaming lips, led zeppelin, and then even the beatles
nowadays - anything from all above to classical pieces. Current favourite bands - the cave singers, birdcircus, wilco & a camp

WRITING INFLUENCES:

the first book I worte on an old typewriter, I thought I had invented ‘trip trash' which turned out to be nothing new, burrows, dylan, cohen & others had been there before, still my first book, written on the shores of the florida keys. - then read those books and loved them

my novel writing is inspired by writers like j.p. donleavey, tom robbins, and other old books that I find form the 40's & 50's.
