Payola combine the minor keys of classic soul and the grit, swagger and inventiveness of epic rock'n'roll, perfectly bridging the gap in sweat and volume between Aretha Franklin, MC5 and Led Zeppelin.

Their live show's epitomise the sexually charged revues of Ike and Tina Turner and the feel good nature of Sly and The Family Stone laced with high energy and brute force. Ms Sophia's wild fro and honey laden tones are the perfect foil to Solomon Coles's primal electric. All this anchored by the weight of a barrelling rythm section makes Payola's mission clear; to have you hung from the rafters, your feet moving in rapid succession and taking the audience where they need to go.

Payola formed in 2004 and released their first album "Gone to Ground" via Jayrem Records. In 2007 they released a limited edition E.P. entitled "Dirt and Stars". In Nov 2008 they are beginning work on their second full length album via their own label Vanguard Recordings titled "Black Swan". The album promises to be an epic balance between early Prince, MGMT, Led Zeppelin, Outkast, AC/DC and old skool Tina Turner, weighted under by layers of cheap electronics, blistering guitars and sex sex sex!!!

The band are under-taking all the production duties themselves this time around utilising churches, native bush , and an array of odd locations to capture the mood of the new songs. The title of the album refers to the "Black Swan Theory".

The term Black Swan comes from the ancient Western conception that "All swans are white". In that context, a black swan was a metaphor for something that could not exist. The 17th century discovery of black swans in Australia metamorphosed the term to connote that the perceived impossibility actually came to pass so in true rock n roll fashion we intend to summon up something to represent this very notion. Of course dual front person Sophia Tupuola equally brings the bands look in line with this also so in a modern industry littered with boring alt rock fizzlers, white punk pop puffery and nu metal shennanigans PAYOLA shall bring it on in style.
