Portrait of Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist and writer. Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, collage, scat sculpture, performance art, and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colors, repetition and pattern. A precursor of the pop art, minimalist and feminist art movements, Kusama influenced contemporaries such as Andy Warhol or Claes Oldenburg. And of course, regarding my admiration for outsider artists, she has been a big source of inspiration for me as well.

I visited the varied, spectacular exhibition of this truly unique artist at Tate Modern, London, in 2012 and I felt in love. There has never been an exhibition of this size of her work in the UK and it was an incredible opportunity for both Kusama fans like me and those who were new to her work. Finally, almost 3 years after, I've made this tribute to her person, which is inspired in her brave personality.
