Monkey Militia loosely formed in 1999 whilst at Exeter University. Throughout the years they lost and gained so many members. In 2006, founder member James moved back to the south east and started up a new Monkey Militia – Mk.XI. Chris, who's been in the band for five years previous, had already moved to London, so was keen to keep the Militia going. Chris and Aaron had been mates from school, so seeing as he was in the same neck of the woods also, was asked to join on drums.
From Feb 2007, this new Militia enjoyed a number of gigs around the local Guildford and London area. In August 2007, Chandelier (the video) was filmed and was included on their album "In The Kitchen, On The Table, In The Sink" which was released in September at an album launch party held in Kensington.
Sadly, soon after the release of the album, Chris and Jonny (second guitar) left the band.
From 2008 the band struggled to keep the momentum going, trying a different number of line-ups until in Jan 2010 when the band took a break.
Missing the Monkey Militia madness, Aaron contacted James again at the end of 2010 about starting up again. After a nice break, the boys were raring to go. Aaron and James got in touch with Gary, a local bass player they knew from a previous band they had gigged with in 2007. Gary not having played bass in a few years was really enthusiastic, and since 2011, has settled nicely into the band.
Monkey Militia (Mk.XV) was born and are looking forward to playing for you again...
