Mishaped Pearls invite you into a world of their own...
The brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Ged and classically-trained soprano Manuela, Mishaped Pearls' sound is a unique blend of classical, pop, folk and world music, inspired by the colourful world of the Baroque, from where the group takes its name - ‘misshapen pearl' is a literal translation of the word Baroque.
As well as being the silky voice of the group, Manuela draws on her love of ancient poetry by researching and providing the lyrics to the songs, which cross many countries, visiting France, Spain, Italy and even Ancient China.
They are joined by four other musicians who found they couldn't keep away from Manuela's delicious smoothies and Ged's garden studio : Andrew Sleightholme on keys, Marty Prior on bass, Helen Bower on violin and Karolina Borkowska on her old hand-made Polish cello.
Together, their efforts have already proved successful - BBC 6 Music picked up the song Benedizione and, together with their debut album The Singer and The Poets managed to wow Tom Robinson so much that he invited them on the spot to appear at a BBC 6 Music festival at the Riverside Studios in London celebrating the best acts over the last 3 years. In the same year they were nominated for an MP3 Award and came second in the classical/acoustic category.
