Klezma Villanova are a four, sometimes five, sometimes eight, sometimes nine piece, from West London. The band formed in 2007 out of the creative cauldron which is the Twickenham music scene and carved out a reputation for their unique gypsy inspired sound. The music maybe influenced from Eastern Europe and Asia but they always maintain a distinctive English, possibly Twickenham, twist.
Harrison Prescot (Drums) and Dave Miller (Bass) provide a wonderfully thumping and organic rhythm section for Joe Whitney-Fish (Guitar) and Ryan Dunphy (Lead Vocals) to overlay their gypsy inspired beauty and madness. The songs swing from foot stomping power and rasping rawness to delicate folk touches and sweetly crafted harmonies. If you are lucky you might see them with a few other friends who make up the Klezma family!
The band released their first EP/Demo in December 2009 which sees Rob Skipper (Larrikin Love/ Holloways/Musical Differences) playing violin on two of the tracks. The band released their EP on miniature Turkish woven rugs which were imported from a "Man from Istanbul".
The band have a raft of festivals over the summer months including Blissfields, Farm Festival, Hamswell Festival and have just won their heat in the Road to Standon competition, which sees them travelling to Standon Calling for the final and a chance to play along side such greats as Buena Vista Social Club.
