The band was originally started by Ali, Dave and Sam in early 2006. By the end of the year Lucas had joined and helped to install a solid musical direction over the most part of 2007. They gigged where they could, achieving 2nd place in the Mole valley Youth battle of the bands.
They released their first EP ‘Senses’ October ’07. The sound was a little disjoined but was an indicator as to what would come over the next year, taking influence from acts such as Radiohead, Faithless and Muse.
Over the next year the band became more focused and other members of the band became more involved with Lucas in the writing process, creating a more unique and original sound. They re-entered the Mole valley botb’s, this time winning, and also making the final in Guildford and Kingston. They also played some small festivals in Dorking and Epsom. They finished 2008 with the introduction of new bass player Alex and the release of a new EP ‘Corridors’. Which was widely accepted to be a much more polished EP than ‘Senses’.
Despite having a large catalogue of popular songs by this point, at the begginging of 2009 Kakuzi spent some time in Wales working on new material. This was to avoid things getting a bit stale. The aim was to make the live show completely unforgettable and to ultimately get signed. They we’ve voted the best unsigned band in London and the south-east and played at the O2 in the Surface Unsigned Festival ’09. In October they signed with Major-G.
