Music Glue - The Band Is The Brand

James Murdoch

The Early Years
Born in icy Whitehorse, singer/songwriter/producer James Murdoch was raised under the basking glow of the stage lights.
James was born into show business; with his father and uncles all established writers and actors, and his mother a concert producer and art director.
Growing up surrounded by instruments and artists fueled young James’ creativity and by six he was playing guitar and piano, and by eight he was performing on national radio.
At the age of 14, James was touring the North and performing his original music to adoring fans.
By the time James had graduated high school, he had accomplished more than many musicians twice his age, having recorded several CD’s and toured with various bands.
Eventually, having foraged around the continent and after briefly settling in Victoria, he crossed the Rockies and found himself in the land of trucks and money; Alberta.

Recording and Producing
James released his first solo record “Polyphonic” in 2001 and in 2002 it received a nomination at Prairie Music Week for “Outstanding Pop Recording.”
James was nominated for the Yukon Artist of the Year at the 2002 West Coast Music Awards
In 2003, a performance at CMW resulted in James being signed to Montreal based Indica Records
“Between the Lines” was released in 2004 and it spawned two Hot AC singles “Believe” and “Break Me Down,” and the videos for both received rotation on Much More Music and MTV Canada.
In the summer of 2005 James opened The Norwood Studio in Edmonton with Captain Tractor frontman Chris Wynters.
His production work on Amy Seely’s and The Wheat Pool’s recent recordings garnered much critical acclaim.
In the summer of 2007 James teamed up with “poetic proselytizer” Hawksley Workman to produce James’ third CD “In Transit.” The songs were inspired by James’ travels and performances from Spain to New York to the Yukon, and they sing in a voice of maturity that speaks volumes of James’ progress as a writer and musician.
In Transit is nominated for three 2008 Western Canadian Music Awards “Outstanding Pop Album”, “Video of the Year” (Transportation), and “Best Album Design” (Nick Perreault).
