On the sleepy Cornwall/Devon (UK) border, an area better known for the laid back lifestyle and rural charm than the creation of memorable melodies, gill were conceived in 2007.
Having written music from an early age, lead songwriter Ed Gill had already begun to commit his songs to tape in a small home studio and soon built a collection of compositions to form the basis of material for the band he was also beginning to assemble.
This extensive catalogue of demo recordings of quality songs then came to the attention of Indie label Squareball Records in 2008. Some initial prestigious industry recognition of a gill song was followed by a period of rehearsal and a tough, low-key gig schedule to hone the band's live sound. Work then began on their debut EP "Evermore", to be released through SBR in summer 2009.
gill bring a fresh approach to their music revealing a band who inject an agitated twist on modern piano-pop with the occasional nod to the electronic synth adornments of their contemporaries.
Idiosyncratic and diverse in equal measures, the standout ingredient in gill's music is one of understanding true pop sensibility that always pushes a decent hook to the fore.
