‘Ed Geater & Lady Sanity are two of Birmingham's new artists to keep an eye on. Their collab "Found a Place" is an awesome blend of indie acoustics, hip-hop... and something I can't really describe, but it does remind me of walking around the island's vast fields. A true sound gem!’ – Stereo Fox

'Stunning' - It's All Indie

'A truly unique sound' – Counteract

‘The pools of music influential to Ed Geater are varied at least, confusing at most: folk, electronica, hip-hop and alternative rock. However, the precision with which he prises elements from each genre and perfectly balances them embodies the unique sound of Ed Geater’ – Bab Mag

Bio

For Birmingham born singer-songwriter and beatboxer Ed Geater, rhythmical dexterity is complemented by lyrical prowess.

Growing up on a staple musical diet of alternative rock, folk and electronica, equally matching his love of classical music, Ed switched his childhood instrument from violin to guitar and pursued his love of song-writing, whilst harnessing his metronomic skills as a beatboxer.

Influenced by his obsession with ambient electronic artists such as Bonobo, Boards of Canada and Four Tet – Ed set out to create the same vivid and textural musical landscapes, but only using his organic vocal beats, acoustic guitar and loop station. The resulting sound is an electronic infused, pop-laden and folk inspired tapestry, with clear nods to revered songwriters such as Jeff Buckley and Ben Howard.

Whilst Ed creates this sound completely authentically live, without any sampling, when producing in the studio he is not afraid to weave in layers of sonic textures, synthetic patterns and bass lines into his acoustic arrangements, adding depth and richness to the end product.

2017 started where 2016 left off, beginning with Geater’s first headline UK tour in March supporting his recently released Unseen EP. The seven date tour finishing with a sell-out crowd at the legendary Hare and Hounds in Ed’s Birmingham hometown.

This was off the back of the success of the EP, which received rave reviews from Louder Than War. Unseen was spearheaded by house tinged pop banger ‘Symmetry’, the video for which was premiered on It’s All Indie and the song twice played on the Villa Park PA before home games, which was a special moment for Ed as a lifelong Aston Villa fan.

His latest release, the hip-hop infused ‘Found a Place’ featuring Birmingham MC Lady Sanity, was met with critical acclaim when unveiled to the world in June, with significant support from BBC Introducing, leading to the track being spun multiple times on BBC 6 Music by Tom Robinson.

A string of summer festival appearances followed, with Ed having played on big stages at national festivals including Beautiful Days and Cornbury, plus Geater’s first international shows – travelling to Hungary supporting fellow Brummie artist Call Me Unique to promote ‘Urban Gypsy 2’, an EP that Geater produced.

The end of 2017 will see Geater perform on Jamal Edwards’ SBTV as part of the station's #0121Radio broadcast in Birmingham, support local reggae heroes Kioko and underground hip-hop legends Too Many T’s.

With new releases in the pipeline, another UK tour and a packed festival season, 2018 is set to see Ed Geater’s progression continue to accelerate.
