Music Glue - The Band Is The Brand

D'in Cheung

D'in Cheung was born in Singapore and spent most of his life living in Hong Kong and his home city. He studied in Australia. He has played many genres of music from Pop, Rock, Metal , Funk to Electronic. D'in is not a technical musician, but his music sense and touch are unique and his melodies sincere enough to catch many audience attentions .

D'in picked up the guitar when he was 18. His parents weren't supportive; they thought music could never be a career. D’in disagreed, and so he quit school and learned without any lessons from music schools to prove himself and his passion.

He joined a well-known Singaporean indie Chinese Gothic Rock band, La'Dies. There, his skill with rhythm and riffs improved due to the mature and well-versed musicians in that band.

He stopped working with La'Dies after he joined the Singapore Arm Forces, but that doesn't mean he stopped music at all. He continued to pursue his dream and moved to Hong Kong for its bigger music scene. In Hong Kong, he had performed at many levels, from small live houses to one of the biggest stages, during the Hong Kong Anime convention event.

In 2007, he gathered his favorite musicians from Hong Kong to start a metal band called 'Crazimalz' (short for Crazy Animals) and pushed the band limit . They tried odd timing, crazily panning guitar parts, singing acappella during a heavy chorus, high pitch singing and screaming. They were signed by The Enigmatic Army and were crazy enough to record an EP produced by Anton Wong within 4 months, perform at UndergroundHK in Hong Kong and Singapore’s live houses, and play on TVB. After those shows, there was good feedback of the CD review and positive live reviews from the shows in Singapore and Hong Kong. Even with everything Crazimalz had accomplished, they disbanded, and members are now back to their own journeys.

D'in continues to move forward for new projects. He recently passed his London Trinity Guildhall Guitar Grade 8 examination with Merit, did a TVC for Sony Bravia, did a soundtrack for Online series LUMINA and is currently collaborating with musicians from Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, America, Russia, India, England and the rest of the world.
