Music Glue - The Band Is The Brand

Chris Ford

After teaching himself to play guitar and piano Chris had only one desire, to write and perform his own songs. While on a mad cap adventure in America, Chris made his live début in the New York folk clubs in and around Greenwich Village after interviewing John Cale of the Velvet Underground for a French radio station.

Armed with John's encouragement and the reaction to his songs Chris never looked back. Based in London Chris has been the lead singer and songwriter for two British bands, but in order to find greater self expression he set about recording his critically acclaimed début album This Atlantic Low.

Following on from this Chris wanted to get back to a simpler and more direct approach in terms of song writing and his relationship to the listener. Inspired by Bruce Springsteen's album Nebraska and Nick Drakes Pink Moon, Chris embarked on recording the album All Caught Up.

The album has a raw and immediate quality which draws the listener in with its intriguing melodic and lyrical hooks. While promoting the singles When The Sun Grows Cold and the title track All Caught Up during 2008 Chris experienced a wonderful response to his music. Between April 08 through to July 09 Chris played countless gigs across the UK and Ireland and was invited to perform over 40 live and pre-recorded radio sessions for both the BBC and commercial radio.

While the approach is similar to the stripped down essence of All Caught Up, the sound of the forthcoming album "The Light On The Hill " which is due for release in 2011 incorporates a wider musical landscape in terms of the arrangements and instrumentation. Chris is a real storyteller. He has something to say and he uses strong melodic hooks and structures to create songs which could all be movie scripts. His voice has a soulful purity and depth that resonates with the listener long after the songs have ended. The first single "Into The Blue" will be released through Essential/Cooking Vinyl on the 4th October. Chris will be performing several live radio sessions during October, including BBC Radio Manchester, BBC Lancashire and BBC Tee's. This will be followed by live dates across the UK from late October into November.
