Born and raised in suburbia, never shot a gun, sold drugs, pimped, at 22 inch rims, never smoked a bowl, never hung out on the corner, Francis Warren (carispa) is not your average hip hop artist, instead he is the polar opposite, but he is living proof that you should never judge a book by its cover.
He started rapping in 2008 after a long time of writing acoustic pop songs and working the open mic scene. He made his first rap album titled ‘dyslexics can make ablums' which is due for release shortly. He combines the structure of funk/jazz/acoustic music with a very individual rap style over, nothing sounds like his music. He doesn't have a band, he is the band, playing all the instruments on his recordings (apart from drums).
The first time he took his musical career seriously was when his friends and co workers started asking him where they could buy his music (the songs he would play during down time or at parties). After putting his songs on soundcloud for a laugh, within two days he had 100 plays from five different countries.
Carispa hopes to use his music to change the hip hop scene that is currently pressurizing young mcs to rap/talk/dress in a specific way, that is usually negative, misogynistic and violent.
I hope your lungs are ready, because this really is a breath of fresh air, as quoted by carispa:
‘I sound like David Cameron rapping to lift music'
