The first, independtly release pressing of Bensh's debut, 'The Bona Fide EP', produced by Dan Swift (Art Brut, Aqualing, Snow Patrol, Kasabian) is now just about sold out. 'Clues', produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor) is set for 7" and digital release in November 2008. Bensh is currently in the studio, working on his debut full length release, out in early 2009.

Bensh is an active songwriter, performer and multi-instrumentalist dividing his time between London and Osaka/Japan and his native Austria. His musical style bears resemblance to eclectic figures like Beck and the classic Roxy Music, in skill, vibe and exuberance. On top of that, add the occasional noise rock escapade thrown in for good measure.  ‘The Bona Fide EP’, recorded with producers Dan Swift (Snow Patrol, Kasabian, Art Brut) and Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor) in London, has been independently distributed online and at shows, with the first 1000 copies sold to date.

Recent Press coverage included features in the Japanese ‘Japanzine’, the Austrian ‘6020 Magazine’ and a feature in the British ‘Future Music’, daily newspapers, radio appearances and current airplay on one of central Europes most influential and popular alternative stations, Radio FM4. The track ‘How Come Nao’ has been included as the opening track on this year’s Japanzine Compilation, distributed across Japan. ‘Woman 77’ was included on the Future Music CD distributed with the August 2008 issue of the mag across Europe.

On stage Bensh is joined  by fellow musician Elias and a video projected drummer. The extensive multi-media elements have been professionally produced in Cologne/Germany, and brought to audiences in the course of a small and successful tour with dates in Germany and Austria. One of the more unusual show’s, hands down, and one of the freshest as of recent. Ready to tear any club down, Bensh started planning a more extensive tour across several parts of Europe in spring 2009.

Bensh is Austrian, with Hungarian and Algerian blood in his veins, drawing on a diverse range of cultural and musical influences. Recently his music has been compared to Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Pavement and the Flaming Lips. While it is fair to say that there’s an element of contemporary hipness shining through tracks like Odd One Out, Woman 77 and Play Deaf, the ‘Bona Fide EP’ sounds both immediate and like a promise of things to come. Have your ass kicked on Bona Fide and Plain Deaf, tune in to the subtly humorous vibe of Odd One Out and Woman 77, sing along on How Come Nao, reflect on the world class lyrics throughout, then let it hit you again. And then realise that this is only the beginning.
