Axis formed in the northern Lithuanian industrial city of Siauliai, sometimes dubbed "The Lithuanian Manchester" for its greyish mood and numerous alternative bands that have emerged there. Later the band moved to the capital Vilnius where alongside their studies they played many lively underground gigs. After gaining some very positive feedback and exposure in Vilnius the band moved further afield to perform in neighboring Latvia and Estonia. In 2006 Axis won the major Baltic TV competition "Baltic New Music Chart: Nokia Open stage". However, eager to look beyond their own local horizons, in the same year the core members of the band Aurimas and Mantas spontaneously moved to Iceland where there's a buzzing and original music scene. During this last year their "sound" and music has taken a new direction. As a result, Axis was with their song "Waste" was shortlisted to the 20 most talented bands on BBC World Service radio show "The Next Big Thing 2007". This way Axis received very positive feedback from many music experts from all over the world.
